Construction of clean rooms, laboratories, pilots, production complexes, logistics centers and offices to the highest standards
Technological development is gaining momentum in all aspects of life. The worsening climate crisis and population growth are creating new challenges, requiring rethinking and technological developments that will produce the food of the future and allow the world population to be nourished.
The traditional methods familiar to us today will not be able to satisfy the needs of the future, and therefore companies that invest in development and innovation may be the ones to advance into the future and be a part of future generations.
In recent years, and in the shadow of these crises, solutions have been developed in the fields of medical technology, medical devices, FoodTech, and pharmaceuticals. In these areas and many others, laboratories, production complexes, and clean rooms are often required.
The new developments and the need for modern and advanced technology create the need to build production complexes, laboratories, and clean rooms from the greenhouse to the mass production stages.
Establishing laboratories, clean rooms, production complexes, offices of various sizes, and advanced technologies requires skilled, experienced, and knowledgeable specialists in the planning, management, and construction stages. These professionals should be able to integrate all requirements into well-written engineering documents and manage a successful, high-quality construction process that is adapted to the customer needs while maintaining the three pillars of planning – schedule, budget and quality.
This is a complex endeavor that requires in-depth engineering and technical expertise and specialized, professional skills. From the required infrastructure to industry-accepted standards, the partners in the process of establishing the sterile spaces in the organization play a critical role in the manufacturing and packaging processes, which require the utmost preciseness and meticulousness. To learn more about the subject, we spoke with Tzachi Ronen, director and owner of Enginity, which specializes in project management and construction of clean rooms, laboratories, production complexes, logistics centers, and offices and has been providing these services to customers for many years.
So what is a clean room?
A clean room is a controlled area where certain particle and microbial levels should be maintained. Entrance to clean rooms is limited, and those who do enter it are required to adhere to a strict, clean dressing protocol. Among others, we use HEPA absolute filters and advanced HVAC marking systems, while using different working pressures and appropriate humidity temperature levels. These and other measures are necessary to ensure absolute cleanliness in the room, with no foreign particles whatsoever. The degree of sterility in clean rooms is derived from the product that is manufactured or developed in it. The room is built and operated in order to produce and maintain a protected and suitable area for production, testing, and development processes.
What uniqueness does the company you founded, Enginity bring with it?
For more than 20 years, I served in various managerial positions in leading companies in the market, including some 10 years at Teva and 10 years at Fibro. In this capacity, I was entrusted, among others, with the establishment of a large number of different types of clean rooms and laboratories and was responsible for their day-to-day operation. Over the years, I have come to realize that there is a growing need for labs and clean rooms, but, at the same time, there is a massive lack of planning and engineering knowledge on how to set up these labs and clean room and adapt them to the customer needs. Moreover, sometimes even the customer teams themselves are not clear about what is required for their daily operations and how this can be achieved.
These insights, as well as my vast experience with various companies at the engineering and technology front, led me to found Enginity in 2019. The company provides a full range of services related to the design, construction, fittings, and supervision required for the setting up of clean rooms, from A to Z. To ensure we can provide a solution that is precisely tailored to the customer needs, we conduct in-depth interviews and translate the customer needs into engineering and technical specifications. This allows us to identify and characterize all the customer needs for and with the customer. We specify the requirements and definitions and transform them into engineering documents that later allow us to manage the planning and produce a bill of quantities with which we can approach the contractor tender and proceed to the actual construction. We have the ability and knowledge to supervise the execution of the design, construction, and delivery of the laboratory or clean room.
Moreover, for us, the project does not end with the delivery of the facility to the customer. We offer additional services that allow the customer to benefit from a complete work experience that includes follow-up services for setting up proper and regular maintenance procedures, as it is known that preventive maintenance and control saves considerable amounts of money caused by equipment failures and unnecessary down time.
In addition, we provide writing services for validation protocols and validation execution for process equipment, support systems, and computerization.
The company is very flexible, offering customers the option to choose the service that suits them best. The customer may enjoy a complete package, in which we serve as the customer’s right hand, and where they meet us at the beginning of the design and at the end of the construction of the laboratory or clean room, or they may opt for a narrower package of specific services that they choose, as described earlier.
Words to summarize?
We offer organizations in the CleanTech industry, including engineering companies and startups, a unique and comprehensive service. Throughout the process, we prioritize the needs of the customer and provide them with technical knowledge acquired over decades to ensure that they have at their disposal state-of-the-art technologies that serve their needs.
